Software-Defined Networking
Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is an approach in which the responsibility for
controlling mechanisms is decoupled from the hardware and assigned to the
software instead. Cloud computing sometimes has the peculiarity of a decoupled
architecture. In such a case the cloud service provider manages the physical
infrastructure (e.g. server farms), but the applications or data are hosted by a third
party. Software-Defined Networking architecture’s goal is to provide network
engineers and administrators flexibility to respond quickly to changing business
demands. Particularly in association with cloud services, SDNs can play an
important role. They allow administrators to manage traffic loads during peak times
more flexible and more efficiently (Rouse, 2012) & (Schultz, 2011, pp. 115-117).
