McKinsey discovered during their empirical research that some industry sectors
profit more from Big Data, like for example the health sector, while the construction
industry e.g. benefits less from the use of Big Data.
5.3
From Segregation to Integration of Data
Building upon the current status of available information in the form of Big Data,
companies do not only have to fulfill tasks like managing their customer databases,
but also to handle a vastly growing amount of data (Leitl, 2012, p. 10). As a
consequence data itself must not be regarded as a vacuum, which does not allow
any material from the inside to stream out, but more as an ecological system that
interacts with its environment.
